  • Is it legal to drive cars offered by Drivers Lounge in Japan?
    Yes, Drivers Lounge is a registered company in Japan with full rental car license. Despite the additional cost that involves in having our cars registered as rental cars and specific insurance policy, all cars that we offer our customers to drive are registered under "WA" number plate, a specific type of number plate which is required by the Japanese Government, we strive to ensure that our customers can drive fully legally in Japan.
  • What languages do you speak in Drivers Lounge?
    We have guides from different continents in the world, generally we offer English speaking tours but if you have specific request in terms of languages, we can offer private tour in Japanese, Cantonese and Mandarin. Please contact us if you wish to have private tours in your own language.
  • How fast do I drive?
    Our guides are professionally trained to provide the best experience to our customers with a balance of safety and enjoying the performance of our cars. However, we are driving on public roads and we must ensure you drive sensibly and responsibly without violating the traffic rules in Japan. In the event that the driver fails to follow instructions of our guides, or driving dangerously, we reserve all rights to stop you from driving and return the car back to our guide without providing any refund.
  • Can I drive only one specific car that I desire during the tour?
    Unless all other participants agree to drive only one specific car of their choice during the tour, we shall offer car swap to our participants as most of them wish to enjoy as many cars as they can within the tour. From our experience it is uncommon to have someone requesting one specific car for the tour, therefore please do not expect we can accommodate such request as we need to respect the rights of our other participants.
  • Can I bring friends and family to join the tours?
    Yes, you may bring companion to join the tours. However, since many sports cars do not have spacious seats at the back, we recommend ONE companion per driver.
  • Can my companion also drive?
    Yes, your companion can also share the car that you drive with an additional fee of JPY 22,000 to cover the insurance cost. However, you have to allocate the driving time of your companion within your own slot for each car.
  • What happens if it rains?
    Our tour will still be conducted under the rain as long as it is safe to do so. All cars are equipped with high grip all weather tyres and they are safe to drive in the wet in a reasonable manner. However, if the weather forecast shows a prediction of excessive heavy rain, typhoon or snow, we reserve all rights to judge whether the tour is safe to be conducted. If we believe it is not safe for us to do the tour, we will cancel the tour and inform our participants as early as we possibly can. For tours that are cancelled by us, we will offer a free change of date or a refund at the participant's choice.
  • I swap cars during the tour with other participants, do I need to check the condition of the cars?
    Yes, everytime when you do a car swap with other customers, you will be asked to do a condition check and mark down all damages that you found on the car prior to your drive. We recommend you take a walk around video of the car highlighting all damages that you can find. You will be asked to sign a condition check form before you drive, therefore we can always trace back who may have damaged the car during the day. Please understand that it may be at your responsibility for damage compensation if you are unable to present proof of any daamages that are done prior to your drive.
  • What qualifications do I need to join the tour?
    You are required to send us your licensing documents (soft copies) prior to the tour for screening. You must bring all the original documents with you on the day of tour. For the licensing requirements, please refer to our "Requirements" page.
  • How old do I need to be for joining the tour?
    Due to insurance restrictions, we can only accept drivers who are 25 years or older and with a minimum of 2 years driving experience.
  • Do I need to book in advance?
    We recommend all participants to book as soon as they have confirmed their schedule in Japan. Tours are more likely to sell out when it comes closer to the date, first come first served!
  • Do I need to know how to drive manual transmission cars?
    It is recommended that you are familiar with controlling a manual transmission car to join our tours as most of our cars are in manual transmission. Should you hold a manual car driving license but never driven a manual car since obtaining the license, or you don't even have a manual car driving license, you may still sign up to our tours but you will only be offered cars with automatic or semi-automatic transmission. Please let us know in advance via email if you are only capable in driving automatic.
  • Where can I book the tours?
    Drivers Lounge only accept bookings via our official website or other platforms that we advertise on.
  • How do I pay for the tour?
    You will make full payment of the tour at the time of booking through our website, you will be re-directed to the payment page and you can settle payment using major credit cards.
  • Other than the tour fee, what other payments do I need to pay you?
    You will need to present a valid credit card (Visa/Master/AMEX) and sign a credit card consent form to cover potential incurred insurance excess or traffic violation penalties. For details, please refer to the Requirement page.
  • What happens if I need to cancel my tour?
    Please refer to the table below for cancellation policy. (All subject to Japan Standard Time) The refund will be made back to the payment card that you have paid with. Should you wish to cancel your tour and request for a refund, please email us at info@driversloungejp.com, your cancellation date and time will be based on the date and time stamp of your email.
  • I booked and paid online, what should I expect next?
    Our team will contact you via email and to collect further information from you, please check your email regularly and make sure our email doesn't go to Spam. We will also send you instructions on how you can reach us and what to prepare for the tour.
  • Do you offer shuttle service to and from Noborito Station?
    Yes, complimentary shuttle service will be provided from and to Noborito Station (登戸駅) before and after the tour, at our designated meeting point and time.
  • What if I am late on the day?
    It is all participants responsibility to arrive punctually, if you are late to arrive in Noborito Station (登戸駅), you will be asked to take a taxi at your own cost to our office. However, if you miss our briefing session, you will not be allowed to drive and no refund will be given.
  • What happens in the event of an accident?
    In the unfortunate event of an accident, according to Japanese Law, we will need to report the case to the police and file a claim to our insurance provider. All our cars are insured with rental car insurance and listed below is the compensation terms. (1) Personal Injury Compensation: Unlimited per person (including compulsory automobile liability insurance) (2) Property Damage Compensation: Unlimited per accident (excess amount of 100,000 yen) (3) Passenger Compensation: 30 million yen per person (4) Vehicle Compensation: Market value per accident (excess amount of 100,000 yen) In addition to the above, there is also an Non-Operation Charge as listed below (1) JPY 50,000 if the vehicle can still be driven (2) JPY 100,000 if the vehicle cannot be driven We will charge the above excess and Non-Operation Charge to your credit card that you have signed a consent form prior to the departure of the tour. A replacement vehicle may be provided only if there is sufficient time to continue the tour until the replacement vehicle arrives.
  • What happens if the vehicle breaks down during the tour?
    Please report to our staff as soon as abnormal condition of the vehicle is observed. Our staff shall inspect the vehicle and determine whether it is in suitable condition to continue driving. If the vehicle is not fit to drive, we will deploy a replacement vehicle to the tour location as soon as we can for you to continue the tour.
  • Can I drive my own car to your office?
    Yes, we offer free parking on site for participants who come in their own cars. Please let us know in advance and we shall provide you with exact location of our office as well as a designated meeting time, please be punctual.
  • What if I bring suitcases with me?
    Most of our customers join our tours as a day activity from Tokyo, therefore most of them will leave their luggages in their Tokyo hotel. If you are joining our two days tour, we recommend you pack your personal belongings in a soft bag that can fit into the boot of the cars easily (please remember, sports car don't always come with practicaility!). If you really need to bring suitcases with you, please let us know in advance and you can leave your suitcases in our office during the tour.
  • Can you help me make hotel reservation?
    Unfortunately, since we are not a travel agency in Japan, by law we are unable to make hotel reservations for our customers. However, we are happy to provide you with some recommendations for your consideration which you may make your own hotel reservation.
